Curriculum and Course development

Presentation Theme: Curriculum and course development

Constructive changes in the curriculum have been seen as a positive sign of a progressive society.

In the following abstract for the paper presentation I have included the broad heads of the areas of improvement and viable ways and means to incorporate them.

Inclusion of interactive methodologies with blend of minimally invasive education techniques shall enable individuals justify their learning skills.

Elementary education:
A standardized and uniform curriculum across country shall provide a platform for single window evaluation at the school level. Increase in interactive form of learning using more of IT tools in teaching ways is needed.

Higher Education:

Inclusion of more vocational training courses across needs to be included in mainstream learning. There is need for developing new courses or modifying existing courses to include higher levels of inter-professional learning and teaching. Most of the universities in the west adopt an incremental approach have shown better results in past. Use of the integrated course deigns as proposed by Fink in 2007 shall enable focused learnings at the initial stages of career path for the individual.

Graduation and Post Graduation education:

Design multi disciplinary courses where students from different professional backgrounds learn from and about each others' professions. Using the Transformational curriculum, more focus on multi skill training with industry requirements shall enable individual with greater practical exposure. Inclusion of internships, workshops, case studies, etc needs to be increased multi fold. This shall bridge the gap between the theoretical to practical education

A radical change to achieve above discussed issues in the curriculum can be achieved by adopting the Backward design mechanism as proposed by Wiggins and Mctighe)

The stages in the Backward design (Wiggins and Mctighe) process are
•Identify desired results
•Determine acceptable evidence
•Plan learning experiences and instruction
