Ruth Gee is based in New Delhi as Regional Director of the British Council’s operation in India and Sri Lanka.  British Council is the UK’s international organisation for education and cultural relations.

 

Her career in the UK was concentrated in the world of education and training within schools, colleges and the university sector.  She acquired a reputation nationally as a strong advocate of equal opportunity and diversity, was one of very few women leaders in her field and was a monthly columnist in Times Higher from 1989-92.

She served on several education-related Boards and Governing Bodies between 1980 and 2003, including ten years as Vice Chair of both the Basic Skills Agency and the Consumers’ Association. She was honoured to be nominated to the Hong Kong Women’s Commission in January 2006 for a three year term.
