Emotional Literacy through Storytelling: Inspired by the Words and Works of Noah benShea
This interactive workshop style presentation is inspired by the words and works of Noah benShea, one of North America’s most respected and beloved poet-philosophers. As life and learning is no less of a challenge than it was yesterday, and in many ways more, the words and works of Noah benShea help translate the challenges learners face in today’s world. As Deepak Chopra said, “Noah benShea’s insights will benefit and transform all….”
In this session, the significance of Noah benShea’s words will be discussed in relation to the development of early childhood emotional literacy (Goleman, 1996). Through storytelling, young learners can recognize their own emotions and those of others, and learn to manage and respond to emotions appropriately. When children can think and talk about the full range of human emotions they will be more able to use those emotions appropriately for their learning, as well as for their relationships.
This session will explore three well-known stories which originate in three distinct cultures, and will provide hands-on activities designed to explore emotional literacy development. These activities will inspire and transform learning in young learners and will touch their life and human spirit.
